Coming of Age (Grades 9-12)

Teens Ponder Big Questions about Who They Are, What They Believe, and How They Want to Show Up in the World

Teens will spend this year learning how to draw on our UU history, practices, and values at difficult or important moments in our lives. The Coming of Age curriculum asks youth throughout the year: “What’s most important to you?” and “Who do you want to be?” and “What do you want to guide you?” It invites them to consider how they live their values, and how the person they say they are is expressed in their daily life and choices.

There are two words that come up again and again: INTENTIONAL and CONNECT. These words are used so often that it becomes a joke among the group a few weeks into the year. The Coming of Age year is about living intentionally and making connections.
