Children & Youth Religious Education Classes

2025 – 2026

Nursery Care

Birth to 3 Years

All Year

Every week we provide loving care in our Nursery for the youngest UUs among us.

In addition to one paid Nursery provider, we have a second volunteer.

Spirit Play

Pre K – First Grade

Sept. 21 – Nov. 23 & March 1 – May 17

Spirit Play uses storytelling, ritual, play, and creativity to help children explore their Unitarian Universalist faith. It is inspired by the Montessori method and focuses on fostering a child’s individual search for truth and meaning.

A typical Spirit Play session includes a presented story, followed by wondering (open-ended questions), creative responses (art, writing, play), and a feast (snack). Spirit Play allows children to learn the language for talking about their faith in a nondogmatic way.

Lego Values

Second – Fourth Grade

Sept. 21 – Nov. 23 & January 4 – May 18

An introduction to UU Shared Values through storybooks, discussion, and play activities. Each session includes an opening circle with an opening question and centering exercise, a story with discussion prompts, and a choice of play activities that carry out the theme of the day (including at least one simple Lego build).

In the second half of the year, we will use Mosaic lifespan antiracism curriculum to provide age-appropriate learning about identity, culture, and building the beloved community.

Power of the People

Fifth – Eighth Grade

Sept. 21 – Nov. 23 & January 4 – April 12

Our Unitarian Universalist faith calls us to take action in the world in support of our shared values. In the Power of the People class, we will investigate times in American History where others have taken action, discuss what values were instilled in them, and let the past inspire our future.

We will use the book Rad American History A-Z by Kate Schatz and Miriam Klein Stahl, and art projects from Mint & Bloom to guide us.

Pathfinders

Ninth – Twelfth Grade

Sept. 21 – Nov. 23 & January 4 – Feb 22

Our High School class will be finding their path this year. In the fall, they start by building their UU identity through Games to Build Community. In the new year, they will take a dive into understanding white supremacy culture, followed by exploring indigenous wisdom. Finally, in the spring, 10th – 11th graders will have the opportunity to refresh their OWL learing while the rest of the cohort will create a worship service for the whole UUCP community.

Worship Planning & Hosting

Fifth – Ninth Grade

March 1 – May 17

To wrap up the year, our middle grades will work together to plan, create, and host a youth-led worship for the whole congregation.

OWL

K – 1, Jan 4 – Feb 22

5 – 6, Sept 21 – Nov 23

10 – 11, March 1 – May 17

Honest, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters helathy relationships, improves decision-making, and has the potential to save lives.

For these reasons and more, we are proud to offer Our Whole Lives (OWL), a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curricula.
