Sunday Morning Programs for Children and Youth

You’ve heard it so often because it’s true: Children are our future. That’s why we offer a variety of enriching programs and activities for the youngest members of our church community and their families. Our programs for children and youth are under the supervision of our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Jesi Laughlin. The Children’s Religious Education (RE) committee and other church members assit in planning and carrying out the programs

Most Sunday mornings the kiddos start in the Sanctuary and then head to Religious Education after a story for all ages is told.  They divide up into age groups to delve a little deeper into their Unitarian Universalist Identity.  Click on each class’s image to find out more!

Nursery Care (birth to 3) – A loving environment for our youngest UU’s.

Rainbow Connection (PreK-Grade 1) – Stories and crafts that explore UU Values.

Spirit Play (Grades 2-4) – A Montessori approach to UU religious education.

Magic of UU (Grades 5-8) – Social Action & UU Values with a dash of magic for middle schoolers.

Our Whole Lives (Grades 7-9) – Lifespan Sexuality Education rooted in UU Values.

Coming of Age (Grades 9-12) – Teens ponder big questions about who they are, what they believe, and how they want to show up in the world.

Throughout the year we offer family focused and all ages events.  Watch the Newsletter, Calendar, Friday Email, Announcements, Bulletin Board, and Social Media for details.  Some of our annual highlights are fruit & chocolate communion, Halloween party, haunted forest, deck the halls, a secret Santa shop, chili cook-off, game nights, Scout Sunday, Easter egg hunt, all church picnic, blessing of the animals,  and more!

COLLABORATORS NEEDED!

The religious education program for children & youth has been growing to meet the needs of members, friends, and newcomers.   It is a joy that it takes the work of ten background checked individuals on a Sunday morning to deliver this program.   Behind the scenes there is other work to do as well.  I am inviting you to collaborate with the team that makes this all happen and to say “YES” to RE at UUCP!

There are many ways to help.  You can sign up to lead a class for part of the year, to be a support teacher on an occasional basis throughout the year, or to serve as a substitute on an as needed basis.  Other ways to help the RE program thrive include caretaking the kids area in the sanctuary, tidying and stocking the busy bags & fidgets, maintaining the kids corner in Fellowship Hall, groundskeeping the playground, organizing special events, creating bulletin boards, and offering to share your special gifts.

Contact Jesi Laughlin (DLRE@peoriaUUchurch.org) or complete the adult section of the  24-25 RE Registration.
