The Year to Save the Earth with Jim Scott
April 18, 2025 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
SanctuaryThe Year to Save the Earth: A Multimedia Experience by Jim Scott
Friday, April 18, 7pm, UUCP Sanctuary ~ Suggested Donation: $20
Mixing powerful songs and beautiful projected images, The Year to Save the Earth takes us from celebration to grieving, protest, learning, and a positive vision for the planet. Jim Scott’s lyrical melodies and outspoken poetry celebrate what’s beautiful, amazing, and fragile, nurturing a spirit of collective action for our planet.
The message is that the time is now! As well as hard reality, the program’s message is one of optimism. There are many invitations for people to join in the singing and then to get involved in environmental action. Facing the urgency of the environmental crisis, the songs challenge us to feel, to learn, and to act.
About Jim Scott: Prolific composer guitarist Jim Scott brings a warmth and humor with his jazz and world music influenced songs. Recently, Jim received an NEA grant to produce The Year to Save the Earth, a multimedia concert combining Jim’s outspoken songs with beautiful and striking images. One of the originators of the Unitarian Universalist Green Sanctuary Program, Jim also compiled the Earth and Spirit Songbook, an anthology of over 100 songs of Earth by many contemporary composers.

Date with Death Club
April 19, 2025 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Conference Room & Zoom at https://tinyurl.com/488xwtjdDate with Death Club: Facing Extinction: Processing EcoGrief
Sat., April 19, 10am-Noon; Conference Room or Zoom at https://tinyurl.com/ayw3cu5z
Do you hope to face our human mortality with less fear and more curiosity? With less conformity and more creativity? If that sounds like you, welcome to Date with Death Club, where we explore topics of aging, death, and dying. Attend one, some, or all sessions.
Due to the climate crisis, we face not our own mortality but questions about our collective existence as a species and whether the planet is dying (at least as it is inhabitable by humans). Using concepts from the “Work That Reconnects,” developed by Joanna Macy, we’ll bravely explore this emotional terrain.
