Things to do in Peoria
Where to Go First
The main entrance leads into a large foyer. (Sometimes we call it the “atrium.”) The coat room is to your left.
Across the foyer from the coatroom, you’ll find our Welcome Table. Friendly people will be there to greet you and answer any questions. Here you can sign our guest book, pick up an information packet, and get a name tag if you wish.
Near the Welcome Table is a hallway leading toward the children’s wing. Restrooms are located down this hall and to the left.
During the Service
As you enter the sanctuary, our ushers will give you a handy Order of Service so you’ll know what to expect. Then just find a comfortable place to sit, relax, and take
in the service. If you have any special needs concerning seating options, please ask our ushers. (For a description of our worship services, see this page.)
Visitor information cards are found in the pew racks. If you didn’t already sign the guest book, you’re welcome to fill out one of these cards and place it in the offering plate. Either way, we’ll send you our newsletter, The Builder, for a trial period.
The Next Step
After your first visit, the next step is up to you. Come join us as often as you like—we don’t take attendance. Keep coming on Sunday mornings, try one of our Adult Religious Education classes, attend one of our social events…whatever feels right for you.
You may eventually decide to become a member, but it’s up to you—we won’t pressure you. If you’d like to become active in the church, there are many ways you can get involved.
Consider yourself invited to be part of our journey. We hope to see you on the way.
What to Wear
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in—we don’t have a “dress code.” Some people like to dress up a little, while others prefer to be more casual.
We try to save energy by not overheating our building in cold weather or overcooling it in hot weather. Dressing for the weather or in layers may help you be more comfortable.
When to Arrive
Sunday services start at 10:30 a.m. To make it easier to find a parking space, you may want to arrive by 10:20 or a little earlier.
After the Service
The service usually lasts for about an hour. Afterwards, you’re invited to join us for coffee, tea, and snacks in Fellowship Hall. Just head to the left as you exit the sanctuary.
Near the entrance to Fellowship Hall, you’ll find a rack with lots of printed information about our church and Unitarian Universalism. Feel free to take any pamphlets that interest you.
If You Bring Children
The greeters at the Welcome Table will be glad to show you around the children’s wing. We have a nursery for infants and toddlers (three months through two years). Usually, school-age children join us in the sanctuary for the first part of the service and then go to their Sunday school classes.
