Join the Acorn Equality Fund for this year’s Annual Family Breakfast, where they will celebrate the achievements of LGBTQ+ and allied students through the awarding of this year’s scholarships! The Acorn Equality Fund is a grassroots nonprofit organization that provides financial support for the advancement of education, health, and civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons and their allies. They raise funds to give out grants and scholarships for higher education. The breakfast is a chance to learn more about the successes and hopes of the youngest members of the community. UUCP kids and youth explore this idea through telling Lemony Snicket’s “The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming: A Christmas Story.” This worship service will be available in person and on Zoom but will not be live-streamed on Facebook. The Parent/Caregiver Orientation is required for parents or caregivers and their children who will participate in the Our Whole Lives: Sexuality Education for Grades 5-6 program. This orientation places parents/caregivers as their child’s primary sexuality educator and engages them as partners in the Our Whole Lives program. In the interactive workshop, facilitators model developmentally appropriate techniques for addressing the topic of human sexuality with children. This year, the sale is hosted by Ten Thousand Villages, a new fair-trade store in Peoria Heights. This is a great way to pick up last-minute fair-trade gifts. Kids will have an opportunity to wrap their gifts after they make their purchases so that their gifts can be holiday surprises. If you wish for your child to participate, please send cash or credit card, a shopping list with recipients, a budget, and permission. Check your kiddo in to RE before worship to complete the shopping list with budget and payment. Volunteers are needed to help with shop keeping. Donate to Our Mitten Tree December 24, 10:30am or All Month Long Decorate our Mitten Tree with NEW winter weather accessories: hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and other warm winter clothing. You can bring them to add during the 10:30am service on December 24 or to the tree in Fellowship Hall throughout December. All items will help keep kids at Pleasant Valley School be warmer this winter.
For Christmas Eve, we share the message of Jesus’ birth through ancient and modern texts and beautiful music. This service will feature music from Dave Breeden and the UUCP Choir, violin from EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks, and piano and organ from Sherry Seckler. Members, friends, family, and visitors are invited.
